​Statistics

This course demonstrates how to apply selected statistical techniques to a wide variety of problems and situations arising in the areas of business, economics, finance, management, social science, health, psychology, and education. Topics include graphical description of data, measures of location and dispersion, probability, discrete and continuous random variables, sampling distributions and estimation, and confidence intervals.

Textbooks, solutions manuals and calculators are available in the learning commons. Please bring all class notes, handouts and assignments when you come for assistance. Assistance is available on an individual or small group basis.

  • Rice Virtual Lab in Statistics
    • In the Sampling Distribution Simulation  you specify the population distribution, sample size, and statistic. An animated sample from the population is shown and the statistic is plotted. This can be repeated to estimate the sampling distribution.
      Concepts: sampling distribution, standard deviation, standard error, central limit theorem, mean, median, efficiency, fluctuation, skew, normal distribution.
