TCC celebrates International Education Week

Tallahassee Community College and the Office of International Student Services will host International Education Week from November 15 through 19, 2021. TCC students as well as members of the community are invited to attend.

 

The week begins with a Virtual Parade of Nations on Monday, November 15 at 1:30 p.m. This opening ceremony will kick off the week-long International Education Week celebration. TCC’s international students will display the flags from their countries as their virtual backgrounds on Zoom and introduce themselves in their native languages. Guest speakers and videos will showcase special international programs on campus including the Global Gateway Program, Study Abroad, and Model United Nations.

Monday also features a virtual visit to the wonderful world of Iceland with TCC faculty member, Professor Brian Kupfer and Study Abroad alumni. No passport required.

On Tuesday evening, November 16, join the Global Council and International Student Services and put your international knowledge to the test during Virtual World Trivia Night. Topics will include geography, culture, and global affairs.

On Wednesday, November 17, TCC presents the third annual Oxfam-inspired Hunger Banquet, an awareness event designed to bring people together in the community to participate in an interactive meal experience that explores the food injustices of today and the broken food chain. Participants role-play to get an educational yet memorable experience. During the banquet, a meal is provided which everyone eats in proportion to the way food is distributed throughout the world. When guests arrive at the Hunger Banquet, they draw tickets at random that assign each to a high-, middle-, or low-income tier, based on the latest statistics about poverty around the world.

Sample the world through a cooking demonstration where international students and staff members from FAMU will show attendees how to prepare traditional cuisines from their home countries for lunch. Information about the foods, culture, and traditions of each country will be presented to complement the cooking.

Thursday, November 18 features Passport to the World in the Student Union Ballroom and Atrium

from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Visit countries represented in TCC's student population and talk with international students about their culture, food, traditions, and how they came to be at TCC. Passport representatives will be on-site to hand out passport applications and talk about how to renew or obtain a US passport.

Our final event for 2021 International Education Week celebration is an International Coffee Hour on Friday, November 19 at 5 p.m. at the Center for Global Engagement at FSU with Florida State University. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with FSU international students and American students who have studied abroad or have an interest in international exchange and other global opportunities.

This year, TCC is commemorating the 17th year the College is celebrating International Education Week.  

The International Student Services department at TCC has proudly hosted many successful events during the annual week-long celebration to support the College’s efforts to create and promote programs of global focus and to position TCC as a truly diverse campus, engaged fully in understanding the world’s challenges and opportunities, and preparing our students for global citizenship.
