Tallahassee Community College is accepting applications for its Summer Scholar Program. The program is a cohort-based pathway for high school graduates who intend to attend TCC as a freshman during the Fall 2022 term.
Students who enroll in this program will jumpstart their college career by taking course during the June Express session of Summer term. Participants will learn and grow together as they are placed in the same courses for that initial start of the program while taking part in engaging enrichment sessions focused on career building, goal setting, and many more empowering initiatives.
As the cohort progresses to the Fall term, they are provided additional opportunities that will lead to college success such as exposure to other TCC programs, community service, mentorship opportunities, and more. This includes being paired with a mentor to provide positive accountability and support. Students accepted into the program will have receive a scholarship for six credit hours of their tuition and fees including a textbook stipend for the program courses.
“One of the most valuable parts of the Summer Scholar Program is the opportunity to pair with an on-campus mentor and meet weekly. Having a mentor changed my life immediately, as she routinely checked in on how I was doing and connected me with job and internship opportunities on-campus and around Tallahassee. We were also provided with a $500 book stipend, which delivered a relieving feeling, knowing that textbooks were one less thing that I would have to pay for that semester.”, says past participant, Sarah Toole.
To be considered for the program, students must:
- Be a high school graduate from Leon, Gadsden, or Wakulla counties
- Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher OR college level ACT/SAT scores (ACT score: 25; SAT score: 1200)
- Complete a TCC Admissions Application
