Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP) & Academic Recovery

TCC is dedicated to providing students with a high quality education in an supportive environment. The purpose of the Standards of Academic Progress (SOAP) is to communicate the College's minimum expectations of academic progress.

TCC's Standards of Academic Progress are as follows:

  • Students with 1-14 credit hours: 1.5 GPA or higher
  • Students with 15-29 credit hours: 1.8 GPA or higher
  • Students with 30 or more credit hours: 2.0 GPA or higher

*Students receiving financial aid must also maintain a 67% completion rate of all courses attempted.  The Office of Financial Aid has a separate appeal process for students who fall below the Standards of Academic Progress and completion requirements.  

Failure to meet these standards will result in one of the following academic recovery statuses:

Academic Warning

Your first semester (1-14 credits) below a 1.5 GPA will result in Academic Warning:

  • You will be required to complete Academic Warning Canvas course available in Workday.
  • You will be required to complete an Online DocuSign form "Academic Intervention Plan".  This form will be emailed to you after grades & academic status are posted. 
  • You will be limited to no more than 13 credit hours
  • You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Advising Center
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance

Academic Probation

Your second semester (15-29 credits) below a 1.8 GPA will result in Academic Probation:

  • You will be required to complete an Online DocuSign form Academic Intervention Plan.  This form will be emailed to you after grades & academic status are posted.
  • You will be limited to no more than 9 credit hours
  • You are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Probation” will be posted to your permanent transcript

Academic Suspension

Your third semester (over 30 credits) below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Suspension:

  • Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for one full semester (e.g., Fall, Spring, or Summer)
    • After completing the academic suspension, you must complete and submit the Online Academic Success Action Plan before the term for which you want to return to TCC (see below)
  • You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
  • You will be limited to no more than 9 credit hours upon return until cumulative GPA raised to 2.0
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Suspension” will be posted to your permanent transcript

Academic Dismissal

Your fourth semester below a 2.0 GPA will result in Academic Dismissal:

  • Enrollment into TCC will be suspended for a minimum of one calendar year (12 months)
    • After completing the academic dismissal, you must complete and submit the Online Academic Success Action Plan before the term for which you want to return to TCC (see below)
  • You are required to apply for re-admission to TCC.
  • You are required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor upon returning to TCC
  • You will be limited to no more than 9 credit hours upon return until your cumulative GPA is raised to 2.0
  • You are strongly encouraged to utilize the TCC Learning Commons for course assistance
  • “Dismissal” will be posted to your permanent transcript

 

Academic Suspension-Dismissal Appeal Packets

If you were Academically Suspended or Dismissed, and wish to be eligible to return early, you may submit an Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal  Packet for committee review.

If approved, you will be notified via email and required to meet with an assigned Academic Advisor before you can register. If the Suspension/Dismissal Packet is not approved, full sanctions will apply and you will have to sit out the required period, and before return complete the ASAP Academic Success Action Plan.

The Online Academic Suspension-Dismissal Packet must be submitted via DocuSign in Workday by the deadline listed below. No late forms will be accepted.

How to Submit an Academic Suspension/Dismissal Appeal Packet 

  • Sign in to Workday
  • Click on Applications
  • Click on TCC College Forms
  • Click on Submit New Form
  • Scroll down to Advising & click on Academic Suspension/Dismissal Packet.
  • Complete & Submit.  You will receive a copy of the form after the committee has made a decision.

You will be contacted via your TCC email account. The decision of the Academic Suspension-Dismissal Committee is final.

If your Suspension/Dismissal Packet is approved, you will be required to complete an ASAP Academic Success Action Plan, and then meet with your assigned advisor.  This form is also located in Workday.

Registration after Suspension

In order to be eligible to register after the academic suspension, students must complete and submit an Academic Success Action Plan, and must meet with an academic advisor to develop an academic success plan.

Registration after Dismissal

In order to be eligible to register after the academic dismissal, students must contact the Office of Admissions and Records and apply for re-admission.  Students must complete and submit an Academic Success Action Plan, and must meet with a student success advisor to develop an academic success plan.
