Free Mental Health Counseling
The TCC Counseling Center offers free individual and group therapy, education and outreach, and crisis intervention. Students can utilize the Counseling Center to gain support for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, ADHD, eating disorders, suicide prevention, anger, grief and loss, stress, and substance use.
The TCC Counseling Center is open for phone and video counseling appointments. Please give us a call at 850-201-7726 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a remote appointment with a counselor. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please call to cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.

For after-hour 24/7 support dial 2-1-1 or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
If you are in immediate crisis, please call 911.

Meet Our Staff
Katherine Strauss, M.S.W., LCSW
Katherine Strauss is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She obtained her Master’s degree from East Tennessee State University in 2012. Katherine has worked as a counselor with at-risk youth in a residential setting and with adults, families, and children in a health care setting. She is passionate about counseling and supporting people through challenging and transitional periods in their lives. Katherine offers a variety of services, including individual counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, and crisis intervention.
Whitney Heim, M.S., LMHC, ATR
Whitney Heim is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Art Therapist. She obtained a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Florida State University in 2011. She has experience working with individuals of all ages with emotional and behavioral issues, developmental and intellectual disabilities, substance abuse issues and trauma history. Whitney has previously worked in an adult day training facility, a residential treatment center, two outpatient mental health centers, and in the school system. Whitney offers a variety of services including individual counseling, couples/family counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention, and art therapy.
Chelsie Needham, M.S.W., RCSWI
Chelsie is a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern and obtained her Master of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University in 2018. Chelsie was previously a therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital where she specialized in adult patients with Mood and Thought Disorders. She has additional experience as a counselor with at-risk youth and adolescents in school, residential and community settings. Chelsie takes a strengths-based approach and often integrates mindfulness with clients. Chelsie offers a variety of services, including individual counseling, group therapy, couples/family counseling, and crisis intervention.
Kayelynn Cooper, Administrative Assistant
Kaye graduated from TCC with her A.A. and transferred to FAMU pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy. She has worked for TCC since 2017 in multiple departments on campus, one being a Mentor for the Eagle Connections Program. Kaye assists with making your first appointment, scheduling, and providing information about campus and the Counseling Center.
Freud, Therapy Fish
Freud is a Betta Fish who has been with The Counseling Center since March 2019. He enjoys swimming, laying in his leaf hammock, and providing stress relief to students. Come visit The Counseling Center to see Freud in action, but remember, don't tap on the glass!

Our staff does not respond to inquiries from our clients regarding specific counseling issues. The Counseling Center front desk staff may use email to remind you of your appointments, inform you of a missed apointment, and to send you our no-show policy.
Confidentiality is essential to the counseling process and cannot be assured with email.
We cannot guarantee that the contents of an email message will remain confidential. While we will do our best to keep your communication private, email usage can be monitored and the content of your personal messages may be read by others. Often staff access to email is limited to working hours. Also, you have no way of knowing if a specific staff member is unavailable due to illness, vacation, or other reasons. This means that your message may not be read immediately. If time is of particular concern for you, please consider calling our office when requesting information.

Anxiety & Stress Management Group
All support groups are open and free to enrolled students. This counselor led group will provide skills and resources for anxiety and stress management. Group members will be able to support, discuss, and collaborate on various skills and topics. Group will meet Thursdays. Register by calling or emailing The Counseling Center.
Healthy Communications Workshop
This workshop will focus on different communication styles and skills. It is free and open to students, faculty, and staff. Call or email The Counseling Center to register.

Provides emergency shelter for individuals and families who are at risk of violence (including domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking). There is one shelter in Leon County and one in Taylor County. Tutoring and Academic Resources
The Learning Commons provides open access computing, tutoring and other learning resources to TCC students. Subject areas include math, science, accounting, economics, computer programming, English grammar/mechanics, English for Academic Purposes, reading and writing, and instructional technology.
In order to assist students on the road to mastering a foreign language, TCC offers one-on-one foreign language tutoring. Students may meet with a tutor during scheduled hours for additional assistance with grammar, pronunciation, and/or composition as it relates to their current foreign language studies.
Have you previously been diagnosed with ADHD or a learning disability? This office assists students in receiving educational accommodations, academic advising, and other educational support services.
