Tallahassee Community College Brain Bowl teams, TCC Blue and TCC Gold, earned first and second-place honors at the Delta Burke Invitational Tournament at Valencia College in Orlando. The two teams entered the tournament as underdogs, not having won since 2004.
TCC Gold was able to recover from a one-hundred-point deficit against Santa Fe A and TCC Blue narrowly defeated Chipola A with the last question deciding the match. Both teams were undefeated going into the last round where they faced each other. TCC Blue won the match, giving them first place while TCC Gold took second.
“We are extremely proud of the team for this win,” said John Bikowitz, Brain Bowl coach. “The group worked hard to prepare for the tournament and we could not be more pleased with the result.”
TCC Blue members were Britain Goldwin (captain), Louis Seybold, Grace Toole Duncan, Ochid Watkins, and Sandra Dillard (alternate).
TCC Gold members were Elizabeth Kemp (captain), Alejandro Valdivia, Ryan Carmichael, Camden Hulme, and Sally Clavell (alternate).
The Delta Burke Invitational is an annual fall tournament. Named for the actress and 1974 Miss Florida who was a student at Valencia Community College, it was first held in November 1997.
