Tallahassee Community College is proud to announce the 2023 Eyrie, the College’s student art and literary magazine, and The Talon, the student newspaper, received nine awards from the Florida College System Publications Association during its annual conference in Daytona.

The Eyrie won four awards for its 42nd edition. Rachel Ostrander, Lia Shehry, and Rachael Braley won first place in Artworks. Olivia Lunsford’s work was recognized with first place for a Two-Page Spread, and the student design staff earned third place in Design. The Eyrie also took home a third-place award for Nonfiction, honoring “The Garden of Life” by S. McCreless.

“This year’s student production team raised the bar for quality and creativity in showcasing the outstanding work of their peers,” said Professor Nicolette Costantino, Advisor of the Eyrie. “These awards are also a much-deserved honor for those whose works were published in the magazine.”

The Talon won five awards. Andrae Lamar Ransom won first place in the Feature Story category for a story he wrote about a TCC baseball player from The Netherlands. Additionally, he won a second-place Feature Photo award for a photo that accompanied the story. Elijah Moran won first place for a sports opinion piece on how to improve baseball. Jason Drewes won a third-place award for his opinion piece calling for measures to reduce gun violence in Tallahassee. The Talon also won a first-place award for its website.

“It’s always nice when students are recognized for their hard work,” said Professor Reggie Grant, Advisor of the Talon.
