The Tallahassee Community College Fine Art Gallery proudly presents “Global Neighbors” from Roopali Kambo. The Gallery will host an opening reception on Thursday, February 22, from 5 until 8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The show will run through April 4.
Kambo is a professor of graphic design at TCC and an interdisciplinary artist with a research-based practice. Utilizing art as an agent for social change, Kambo seeks to broaden the dialogue in art, design, and culture by building meaningful human experiences that both inform and reflect society.
The exhibit will include multimedia works in her modernist, abstract style that draws inspiration from diverse world cultures. Kambo’s pieces seamlessly work to intertwine the old with the new, existing side by side in a perpetual state of evolution and change. Throughout the “Then & Now, And Again…” installation using AI, the Kaavad, a multilayered hand-painted wooden box used in India as a storytelling tool, serves as a metaphor for the artist’s work on display. Paying homage to ancestral traditions, the visual narrative unfolds as a bridge connecting traditional art forms with cutting-edge technology. Stepping beyond her traditional easel paintings, the installation features a state-of-the-art piece derived from Kambo’s own artworks, created using AI, and seen on a large screen monitor.
The gallery, located in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on the main campus of TCC, is open from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public. Parking on the campus of TCC is also free.
